The Best Day Trips To Take From Seville
From cathedrals to sunlit plazas, Seville is unforgettable — and it’s the perfect base for two effortless day trips from Seville by train. Córdoba and Granada are both easy rail escapes: Córdoba’s Mezquita and historic Jewish Quarter make for a peaceful cultural visit, while Granada’s Alhambra and Moorish gardens offer a magical, slower pace away from Seville’s busy streets. Both cities are ideal for day trips or overnight stays from Seville, giving you more history, tapas and local life without the hassle of long transfers.
Train Access from Seville
Both Córdoba and Granada are easily accessible by train from Seville. Trains depart from Sevilla‑Santa Justa, and tickets can be bought at the station or via the Trainline app. Top tip: arrive with plenty of time — you’ll need to pass through security at the station, which is a single checkpoint for all platforms and can form long lines during busy periods.
Cordoba

Wander the narrow, sunlit streets of Córdoba, letting the city’s whitewashed houses, fragrant orange trees, and hidden patios lead you toward the historic Jewish Quarter. Lose yourself in winding lanes lined with artisan shops and tapas bars, pause for a coffee in a shaded plaza, then arrive at the Mezquita Córdoba — a perfect stop on any day trip from Seville or a longer Córdoba walking tour.
Wandering into the Mezquita Córdoba is a must when visiting Córdoba. The mosque’s forest of red and white horseshoe arches and the sunlit plaza outside create one of Andalusia’s most unforgettable sights. Stroll through the shaded courtyard, admire the intricate Moorish architecture. Tickets sell out fast so it is recommended you book these in advance.

Granada
Wander through Granada and you’ll quickly see why it’s one of my favourite places. While it’s possible as a day trip from Seville, I highly recommend staying a few nights to fully experience the Alhambra, explore the atmospheric Albaicín, and enjoy flamenco in Sacromonte, wander the winding lanes, and let the city’s tapas culture and sunset views unfold at a relaxed pace. Seville to Granada by train makes this an accessible escape for both day trips and overnight stays.

The Alhambra is the star of Granada — and watching the sunset from the Alhambra viewpoint is a moment that explains why. As golden light spills over the palace and the Sierra Nevada silhouette deepens, the Nasrid palaces and gardens glow with a warmth that feels almost otherworldly. For the best experience, book Alhambra tickets in advance, time your visit for late afternoon, and linger at the Mirador de San Nicolás or other viewpoints to watch the city shift from day to dusk.
