Railay Beach 2 Day Itinerary: The Perfect 2 Days in Railay Beach, Thailand
If you’re planning a trip to southern Thailand, Railay Beach should absolutely be on your list. Tucked away between towering limestone cliffs and turquoise Andaman Sea waters, Railay feels a little different from the busier beach destinations nearby — and it quickly became one of our favourite places in Thailand.
We originally debated whether to visit Railay Beach as a day trip or stay overnight, but we’re so glad we chose to stay. Having two days gave us enough time to slow down, enjoy the beaches, explore the caves and viewpoints, spot monkeys and head out on a private longtail boat trip to explore the surrounding islands and snorkelling spots.
In this Railay Beach 2 day itinerary, we’re sharing exactly how we spent our time, including the best things to do, where to go for sunset, our private island-hopping experience, where we stayed and our tips for making the most of two days in Railay Beach.
So, if you’re wondering what to do in Railay Beach in 2 days, here’s our tried-and-tested itinerary.
Day 1: Beaches, Caves & Monkeys
We absolutely loved Railay Beach and were so glad we chose to stay overnight rather than visit as a day trip. Having a few days here meant we could slow down and actually enjoy the laid-back atmosphere without feeling like we were rushing from one attraction to the next.
For our first full day, we kept things fairly relaxed. We spent the morning soaking up the sunshine on Railay Beach, taking in those incredible limestone cliffs and turquoise water before heading off for lunch.
After lunch, we decided to explore a little more of the island and walked towards the cave area. The walk itself was an adventure, with the dramatic limestone scenery making it feel like we were exploring somewhere much more remote than a popular Thai beach destination.
One of the highlights was spotting the monkeys along the way. We were lucky enough to see both macaque monkeys and the much friendlier dusky leaf monkeys. The dusky monkeys were particularly special to see, with their distinctive faces and huge, expressive eyes.
It was such a lovely way to spend our first full day in Railay — a mixture of relaxing on the beach, exploring on foot and seeing some of the wildlife that makes this part of Thailand so unique.

Day 2: Four Islands, Snorkelling & Sunset
For our second day in Railay Beach, we decided to get up early and make the most of our hotel breakfast before heading out on the water.
We hired a private longtail boat for 2,500 baht (around £56) to take us around the famous Four Islands. We had spent quite a bit of time debating whether to book a private boat or join a group tour, but we’re so glad we chose to go private.
The private boat worked out at only around £5 more per person than the group tour, and for us, it was absolutely worth the extra cost. We could explore each stop at our own pace, spend longer wherever we wanted and move on when we were ready rather than waiting for the rest of a tour group.
Over around four hours, we visited all four islands and also had two opportunities to jump straight off the boat for a swim and some snorkelling. Having our own boat made the whole experience feel much more relaxed, and we loved being able to decide when we had seen enough of each stop rather than sticking to a set schedule.
If you’re planning a Railay Beach 2 day itinerary, we would definitely recommend making time for a Four Islands tour. And if your budget allows, we’d personally choose a private longtail boat — especially when the price difference is so small.
Once we arrived back in Railay, we headed to our hotel to freshen up and relax for a little while before making our way back to the beach for sunset.
After a busy morning on the water, sitting on the sand and watching the sun go down behind the limestone cliffs was the perfect way to finish our two days in Railay Beach.

Where We Stayed in Railay Beach
We stayed at Avatar Railay, and it was a great base for our two days in Railay Beach. The hotel is located on Railay East, within easy walking distance of the main restaurants, shops and beaches, so we found it really convenient for exploring the area.
One of the biggest bonuses for us was the price. As we were travelling during low season, we paid just £23 per night, which we thought was fantastic value for the location.
We also loved having a hotel pool to come back to after exploring and our early-morning boat trip.

If you’re looking for somewhere affordable and well located, we’d definitely recommend considering Avatar Railay for your stay.
Is 2 Days Enough in Railay Beach?
Yes — we think 2 days in Railay Beach is the perfect amount of time for most travellers. It gave us enough time to enjoy the beaches, explore the caves and surrounding area, see the monkeys, and fit in a Four Islands boat trip without feeling like we were constantly rushing.
We especially recommend staying overnight rather than visiting Railay as a day trip. Having two full days meant we could enjoy the beach at a slower pace, experience the area after the day-trippers had left and finish our stay with a beautiful sunset.
If you have longer, you could easily spend 3–4 days here if you want more time to relax, rock climb or explore nearby beaches. But if you’re short on time, two days in Railay Beach gives you a great balance of sightseeing, adventure and downtime.
Our Tips for Visiting Railay Beach
After spending two days in Railay Beach, these are the tips we’d recommend if you’re planning your own trip:
- Stay overnight if you can. We were so glad we chose to stay rather than visit just for the day. It gave us much more time to enjoy Railay at a relaxed pace.
- Consider a private longtail boat. Our Four Islands tour cost 2,500 baht for the boat and was only around £5 more per person than the group option. Being able to go at our own pace made it well worth it for us.
- Bring cash. Railay is small and cash is useful for restaurants, shops, boats and other activities.
- Pack swimwear and a towel. Even if you aren’t planning a full beach day, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to swim, especially if you take a boat trip.
- Allow time for sunset. Head to Railay West in the evening and find a spot on the sand. After a busy day exploring, it was the perfect way to finish our time in Railay.
- Don’t over-plan your time. One of the things we loved most about Railay was its relaxed atmosphere, so leave yourself plenty of time to simply enjoy the beaches and scenery.
